We recently welcomed South Bend, the 4th largest city in Indiana, as a US Ignite Community. We have worked with them to identify ways to accelerate the adoption of innovative solutions that improve the lives of South Bend residents. The first outcome was SolveSB, the first ever South Bend-focused Ideathon!

The US Department of Transportation issued a Request for Information to inform their Thriving Communities Initiative. The Thriving Communities Initiative will provide technical assistance and capacity-building resources to improve and foster thriving communities through transportation improvements. Five businesses leveraged the information and skills they learned over six weeks in our Smart City Accelerator to deliver a live pitch for investors, including regional, angel, venture capital, and family office investors.

In Clinton County, MO, one of our Project OVERCOME communities, Kathy Kiely, The Lee Hills Chair in Free Press Studies at Missouri University led a media literacy training effort for the Clinton County residents to prevent the spread of misinformation.

US Ignite created the InnovateSLC training, in partnership with the Economic Development Administration, to teach small businesses in the area about the smart city space and its role in economic growth. 

The Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) and US Ignite partnered to host the Virginia Cybersecurity Challenge, a four-phase competition with the goal of sparking the development of cybersecurity prototypes that leverage unique elements of emerging 5G technologies. At the Spring Smart Cities Connect Conference & Expo in Columbus, Ohio, 325 community leaders gathered for three days of in-person networking and content sharing focused on technology, sustainability, and growth. As it happens, our team also came together at the event to celebrate ten years of US Ignite!

US Ignite will partner with Texas A&M University (TAMU) to host a challenge competition that tasks participants to deliver an AI system to help first responders leverage data coming from IoT devices, smart buildings, and other public streams.
