As part of the Fort Carson Smart Transportation Testbed, US Ignite designed and deployed a pilot project to test the use of an automated shuttle for personnel transport. Our team worked with the Department of Defense and other key partners to implement the project, and to gather data on Automated Vehicle (AV) technology, its viable use cases, and how smart bases and communities can continue to build on the lessons learned from early experimentation.

We are pleased to announce that we’ve now published our findings from that project in a new AV Playbook. The Mountain Express shuttle at Fort Carson transported over 200 passengers on a 3.1-mile fixed course. Click below to learn more about the AV shuttle, and to download the playbook.

  • Choosing a route and preparing for operations
  • Selecting technology partners and vendors
  • Issue resolution
  • The importance of defining an ‘Operational Design Domain’
  • Ensuring project safety
  • Gaining ridership
