The Smart Gigabit Communities Project has been initiated by US Ignite, a Washington DC-based non-profit organization operating under a National Science Foundation grant. Cox Communications and US Ignite partnered and invited the City of San Diego to be the 20th designated Smart Gigabit Community.
Cox Communications is providing a grant over a three-year period that will result in improving the quality of life for metro San Diego citizens. US Ignite, in partnership with Cox Communications and the City of San Diego, seeks a local non-profit organization to assist in implementing the grant in San Diego. The grant will be disbursed and managed by US Ignite.
The overall goal of the project is to empower San Diego’s innovation community by providing the needed support and infrastructure to develop at least four smart gigabit applications that address local needs, such as, but not limited to: infrastructure, workforce development, public safety, education and community health.
