The city of Joplin, Missouri, one of US Ignite’s newest Smart Gigabit Communities, is working diligently to create and deploy smart city technologies that support resilience to natural disasters. Through a network of infrastructure, utility, and municipal partnerships – and now through a new partnership with technology provider Itron – leaders in Joplin have launched a Smart Community Challenge for LED lighting solutions that can contribute to a safer environment for area residents.

Working with the city of Joplin and Liberty Utilities, Itron is looking for leading IoT technology providers and problem solvers to develop innovative solutions for lighting infrastructure during prolonged power outage events caused by extreme weather. Technology vendors will leverage Itron’s open IoT platform and standards-based developer tools to build cyber-physical solutions using the city of Joplin as a testbed.

Smart Community Challenge winners will be given the opportunity to build their brand, gain access to Itron’s suite of developer tools to accelerate innovation, and be featured in a global marketing campaign to showcase the solution to Itron customers.

How to Apply:

Apply for the challenges by March 31. Finalists will have approximately 8 weeks to demonstrate an integrated solution using the developer kits. Winners will be announced in July 2020.
