Pilot Project Overview
US Ignite has partnered with Signify BrightSites to offer communities an exciting opportunity to use next-gen wireless connectivity infrastructure to solve public safety, digital equity, transportation, and environmental challenges.
Through this pilot program, communities will gain access to Signify BrightSites, a technology that transforms legacy lighting grids into reliable, low-latency, high-bandwidth (1GB+) com.

US Ignite and Signify BrightSites seek community partners to pilot and demonstrate community use cases of Signify BrightSites to increase connectivity across a community to help solve community challenges relating to public safety, public connectivity, and transportation.
Step 1: Communities submit an online interest form identifying at least two use cases (see sec 3.1 in the RFP document). Applicants must submit the form by 05/16/2025 to be considered for review.
Step 2: US Ignite will host follow-up meetings with each qualified applicant to discuss proposed pilot projects and determine eligibility.
Step 3: US Ignite and Signify BrightSites will evaluate pilot forms and interview notes to determine eligibility and fit.
Step 4: Communities selected for the pilot project will be announced. This round will be capped at 10 communities, but an additional round may be launched depending on the size and strength of the applicant pool.

Eligibility and Requirements
Communities interested in participating in Brightening Smart Communities with Innovation Pilot Project must have:
- Ownership of Light Poles or Utility Approval for Install
- Access to Fiber Connection
- Dedicate staff for project management and leadership support
Communities with a higher likelihood of success with this pilot project would also have a digital transformation agenda that already includes some of the following items matching the use case to be addressed:
- Enhancing broadband access for communities.
- Improving the digital access to enable remote work, business, and education opportunities.
- Improvements to public area access to resident services, healthcare, tourism, and access to local business information.
- Improving tourism and visitor experience through innovative technology.
- Enhancing safety and security through intelligent solutions.
- Improving road safety and traffic management by better sensing mobility and traffic flows.
- Real-time sensor or camera monitoring of key locations.
- Public security awareness and law enforcement support.
- Environmental condition monitoring and improvement through the use of sensory data to lay out preventive measures for climate change.
