Washington, DC May 23, 2023– President Joe Biden nominated Anna M. Gomez for the fifth commissioner position at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) earlier this week. Gomez is a highly experienced and motivated telecommunications attorney. She is also a former US Ignite Advisory Board Member who contributed her skills and knowledge to the organization and its partners.
"Thanks to her unwavering dedication to public service and technological advancement, we know that the FCC will be stronger with Gomez in a leadership position." Nick Maynard, CEO, US Ignite
“Gomez’s track record in the telecommunications field speaks for itself,” said Nick Maynard, US Ignite’s CEO. “Thanks to her unwavering dedication to public service and technological advancement, we know that the FCC will be stronger with Gomez in a leadership position.”
Throughout Gomez’s distinguished career, she has developed robust expertise in communications law and policy. Anna is the Senior Advisor for International Information and Communication Policy in the Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy. Among many other roles, she previously served as the Deputy Administrator at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and held multiple positions at the FCC.
Gomez’s industry knowledge and contributions have been widely recognized and celebrated. However, her nomination for commissioner of the FCC solidifies her status as an esteemed leader in both the telecommunications and public service fields. Given the FCC’s pending critical decisions on digital equity, broadband access, and technological innovation, filling the long-time vacant commissioner position is of utmost importance.
In the same announcement, President Biden also nominated Geoffrey Adam Starks (Democrat) and Brendan Carr (Republican) to continue as FCC commissioners. All three nominees must be confirmed through a Senate vote. US Ignite fully supports seeing the FCC at full capacity again and will be closely monitoring developments in the nomination process.
